Calculated Gamble’s discard order

In the Sly Silent build, Calculated Gamble replaces the remaining hand, so the decision starts with which cards should be played first. If a defensive card is needed to survive and the deck has no reliable replacement, use it before gambling. If a Sly card should activate from discard, leave that card for the discard action instead of paying its ordinary Energy cost.

The card itself leaves your hand when played. With five other cards remaining, it discards those five and draws five; it does not produce a sixth replacement for itself. ## Retain does not remove Exhaust

The upgrade adds Retain. Both versions still Exhaust when played. Retain lets you carry the Gamble to a turn with a poor hand, more discard rewards or a needed Sly activation. It does not turn the upgraded card into a repeatable draw engine by itself.

Tough Bandages and Tingsha reward the discarded cards. Their presence can make a hand replacement useful even when the new cards are not all playable, but check how much defense is required rather than assuming every large discard creates enough Block.

Avoid treating Sly effects as guaranteed resources available before the whole Gamble resolves. Card-trigger ordering matters, especially near a reshuffle. For a turn requiring a specific amount of Energy or draw, prefer a simpler discard line when it provides the needed result without relying on a complicated sequence.
