Generation before payoffs

Blade Dance adds several Shivs to the hand, but the generating card Exhausts in Slay the Spire 2. It provides a burst of attacks rather than a guaranteed repeat on every deck cycle. Cloak and Dagger combines Block with Shiv generation; Infinite Blades supplies generation over later turns. These sources have different timing and should not be counted as interchangeable.

Accuracy improves Shiv damage after the Power is in play. A hand that draws Blade Dance before Accuracy may have to choose between immediate damage and waiting for a setup that is not available yet. Do not assume the ideal order when deciding how many payoff cards the deck can afford.

Relics and turn sequencing

Shuriken, Kunai and Ornamental Fan reward attack counts within a turn. Nunchaku has its own attack counter and energy reward. A Shiv can contribute to those effects while dealing damage. Count the actual sequence before spending energy on another generator; the next relic trigger may already be reachable with attacks in hand.

Blade of Ink supplies a temporary Strength payoff for attacks played that turn. Play it before the sequence intended to benefit. Phantom Blades changes Shiv retention and the first Shiv’s damage, which can make timing across turns relevant. Their effects do not require drafting every possible generator.

Repeated fights and area coverage

Fan of Knives changes Shivs into area damage and generates additional copies. It needs a turn on which its setup and the resulting attacks can be used safely. Knife Trap plays Shivs from the Exhaust Pile, making previous Shiv use relevant to the current burst. A Knife Trap drawn before the pile contains useful ammunition is a different card from one drawn later.

Afterimage can add Block to a many-card turn. It is support for defense, not a reason to ignore enemy intents. Keep reliable Block and debuffs for turns when the engine is split across draws or when adding more attacks is undesirable.

Upgrades and alternatives

Improving a generator can provide another attack and another chance to reach a relic threshold. Improving Accuracy instead increases each Shiv after setup. Compare those outcomes with the next encounter and the number of Shivs the deck actually produces.

A small Poison package can supply another way to finish a long fight. Discard and draw can make the existing generators easier to find. Neither addition invalidates the Shiv package; they can cover weaknesses that another Accuracy would leave untouched.
