Lightning sources and payoff timing
Ball Lightning deals attack damage while Channeling Lightning. Lightning Rod combines immediate Block with Lightning on later turns. Those cards help establish an Orb plan without requiring several separate setup draws. Cracked Core supplies an opening Lightning Orb, but the starting relic alone does not justify a deck full of conditional payoffs.
Storm Channels Lightning whenever a Power is played. Place Storm before the Powers that are meant to generate Orbs. Synthesis can make the next Power free, while Subroutine returns energy from Power plays after its own setup. Neither card fixes a hand that does not contain a useful Power to play.
Passive triggers and Evokes
Tesla Coil triggers Lightning against a chosen target. This offers control over damage that otherwise goes to random enemies. Thunder instead rewards Evoking Lightning. The two payoffs refer to different actions: triggering a passive does not automatically mean an Orb was Evoked. Read the actual effect before expecting both Powers to fire from the same card.
Voltaic uses the Lightning already Channeled during the combat. It improves after earlier generation, so drawing it before that activity is a different situation from finding it later. Tempest converts available energy into Lightning. Spending everything on Tempest still requires an answer to the incoming attack.
Upgrades and defense
A Storm upgrade improves how much generation later Powers provide. A Defragment upgrade improves the Focus it supplies. The better choice depends on whether the deck needs more Orbs, stronger Orbs, or a cheaper and safer opening sequence. Mummified Hand can ease Power setup by making a random card free, but the chosen card is not guaranteed to be the one you wanted.
Frost cards can supply defense alongside Lightning. Coolheaded also draws, which helps locate the setup or the correct response. Adding that card does not prevent this from being a Lightning strategy; it can make the damage plan survive long enough to work.
Multiple enemies and pivots
Lightning’s random targeting can spread damage when one enemy must die immediately. Keep a direct attack, controlled trigger or area-damage answer for that situation. A deck that already scales through Lightning may gain more from draw and dependable Block than another expensive payoff.
If Storm never appears, a smaller package of attacks and Orb generation remains playable. Do not reserve every reward for a Power engine the run has not supplied.
