Data Disk supports both the Lightning build and Frost build. Its 1 Focus is present from combat start, so you receive the benefit without drawing or paying for a setup card first. The improvement depends on which Orbs you channel and how often they trigger.
Data Disk and Orb setup
Focus raises Lightning damage and Frost Block. It also improves the growth of Dark Orbs. It does not make Plasma generate more Energy, and it does not increase ordinary Attack damage or the printed Block on a Skill. A deck with an empty Orb row gains no immediate protection from the relic.
Coolheaded pairs a Frost Orb with draw, while Ball Lightning establishes Lightning alongside an attack. These cards can bring the passive Focus into use immediately. More Orb slots are useful only if you can fill them; repeatedly channeling into filled slots instead creates evocations. Those are different ways to use the same Focus bonus.
Data Disk also makes an early Focus Potion easier to evaluate. The potion adds more combat-long Focus, but you still need the appropriate Orbs and enough time for their effects. When the next attack is lethal, compare immediate Block or an evocation sequence with waiting for passive triggers.
