Black Hole trigger count

In the Star Regent build, Black Hole rewards occasions when you gain or spend Stars. Gaining two Stars with Venerate is one gain event; it does not automatically deal the printed damage twice. A large stored Star total also causes no damage while it remains unspent.

A sequence that gains Stars and later spends them can trigger the Power from both kinds of event. This makes ordinary resource cards contribute area damage, but the rate depends on how many actual gains and payments the deck performs. ## Compare offense with Star-funded Block

Child of the Stars supplies Block for Stars spent. It scales with the amount paid, whereas Black Hole rewards the transaction. A high-cost Star card and several small payments can therefore have different implications for damage even when they spend the same total resource.

The upgrade raises Black Hole’s damage from three to four per activation. It is more valuable with repeated activations and multiple enemies than with a deck making one Star transaction on a short turn. Free plays need particular care. A card made free does not supply a Star-spending event for a cost you never paid. It may still generate Stars through its own effect, which is a separate trigger. Check the displayed cost before assuming a free expensive payoff will activate Black Hole as though its normal Star cost had been paid.
