Energy and draw shortages
If useful cards remain in hand after your Energy runs out, adding another expensive draw card may worsen the problem. If Energy remains but the hand contains weak starters, an Energy-producing card will not create a useful target by itself. Inspect the cards you could actually play on the last difficult turn.
A card can address both resources. Adrenaline supplies Energy and draws cards without an Energy cost, while Acrobatics spends Energy to improve access and supplies a discard. Their functions overlap, but their consequences for an Energy-starved hand differ.
Prepared and discard triggers
Prepared costs no Energy, but drawing it occupies one of the hand’s initial positions. Its base effect draws one and discards one, after Prepared itself is played. Before discard triggers, the base effect leaves the hand one card smaller. Its upgrade draws and discards two, so it still leaves the hand one card smaller.
With a Sly card to discard, the same action can produce a free play. With a card that benefits from discarding, it can contribute resources or selection. Evaluate the connected cards together and keep the Sly timing rule in view: the ordinary end-of-turn discard does not qualify.
Battle Trance sequencing
Battle Trance draws cards and then prevents further drawing that turn. Resolve other draw you need before accepting that restriction. Burning Pact or an Exhaust-triggered draw effect cannot be evaluated solely by its printed draw amount while the restriction is active.
An illustrative Ironclad turn with Battle Trance and Burning Pact should therefore compare the two possible sequences before committing. The first card changes the value of the second; neither card’s individual rating captures the interaction.
Regent’s Energy and Stars
Alignment spends Stars to gain Energy. The extra Energy is useful only if the hand can spend it on actions that improve the turn, and the Star cost may compete with another payoff. A Stars engine needs production, spending and a reason to spend—not just a large resource total.
Big Bang touches draw, Energy, Stars and Forge in one card, but it does not establish a complete strategy on its own. The Stars guide and Forge guide separate the payoff paths.
Upgrades and resource balance
Compare an upgrade, a cheaper defensive option, a discard outlet, or one more source of draw against the actual resource shortage. Restoring HP at a rest site can buy time to develop the deck, but repeated unplayable hands indicate a continuing resource problem.
